Julius Jones’ Alibi

Jones’ Family Members

.

Brenda Cudjoe

Jones’ family claimed another party, Brenda Cudjoe, was with Jones on the night of the murder and she could corroborate the alibi. Cudjoe denied that she was at the Jones’ home on the night of the murder.

David McKenzie

In a hearing by the State Court held on the claim Jones was at his parents’ home the night of the murder, McKenzie (Jones’ lead defense attorney) testified that he discussed the alibi with Jones more than once and Jones said, “he was not at his parent’s home that evening” and that “his parents were mistaken.” The prosecutor clarified, “Mr. Jones, Julius Jones, denied to you that he was home the evening of the homicide?'“ He answered, “Yes.”

Malcolm Savage

Another of Jones’ attorneys confirmed that Jones denied being at his parent’s home on the night of the murder.

Julius Jones

Notably, appellate (Jones) did not testify at the evidentiary hearing and he did not claim to have ever advanced an alibi defense consistent with his family’s claims. Also, Jones did not deny telling McKenzie his family’s version of the events were wrong.

Eye Witness Description of the Suspect

Placing Jones with the Suburban

Firearm Forensics

Both the bullet found lodged in the victim’s head and the bullet shot into the dashboard of the Suburban, match the bullets that were fired by the gun found in Jones’ bedroom.

The gun found in Jones’ bedroom also matched the description given by Jones’ girlfriend as the gun in Jones’ possesion during the Summer of 1999.

*** Bullets found in Jones’ car, which was in the shop at the time of the murder, matched bullets consistent with the forensic evidence.

Eye Witness Accounts

A completely neutral eye witness, whom was in the Braum’s parking lot which was visited by the Howell family immediately before the murder, witnessed Jordan’s car circle the parking lot and eventually back into a parking space. The witness saw “two, young black males” in the car - the driver’s hair was in cornrows and the passenger wore a white t-shirt. The car left suddenly, which is consistent with Jordan’s testimony that they saw someone looking at them and left, and waited at a stoplight for the victim to leave.
