The Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office Submits Their Packet to the Oklahoma Pardon & Parole Board in Preparation for the October 26th Clemency Hearing
The truth is that Julius Jones murdered Paul Howell. And while that murder is the worst thing Jones ever did, it was also part of a pattern of unlawful behavior that began in 1995 and continues to this day. Jones and his defense team have told many half-truths, lies by omission, and outright falsehoods. But the evidence tells an incontrovertible truth; a truth that has been reaffirmed these many years by every court which has considered the entirety of the evidence. Julius Jones is not entitled, by virtue of his lies and manipulations, to executive clemency.

For 22 years, they denied every request for an interview, and those requests came from news organizations around the world.
Last week, the Howell family decided to break their silence to fight what they say are outright lies about the case.

Oklahoma County District Attorney, David Prater, Publishes ‘The truth does not fit their narrative’ in The Oklahoman
The Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board has granted Julius Jones, a convicted murderer a commutation hearing. In the years leading to this point, a coordinated effort to manipulate and misinform the public about Julius Jones has gained traction. The dishonesty of the killer’s supporters cannot be overstated. They have even compared Jones to Jesus Christ. The motivation of those behind this campaign is unknown. It is clear that some have malicious, nefarious intent. They use their position or title in a church, attempting to give themselves undeserved credibility and desired celebrity.

Jones’ Attorneys Mislead the Public by Falsely Reporting Pardon & Parole Board Investigator’s Recommendations
In the public release, Jones’ legal team said the parole board investigator “recommends commuting Jones’ sentence and taking the death penalty off the table” and that her two “non-death commutation recommendations” to the board were “Commute to Life Without Parole” and “Commute to Life.” An email from General Counsel for the Pardon and Parole Board Kyle Counts to Jones’ federal attorney Dale Baich refuting what was said about the parole board investigator in the release.
Oklahom County District Attorney David Prater statement:
“The complete misrepresentation of the investigator’s report is just the latest example of the killer’s and his supporters’ lies. The killer’s attorneys have had the report for months and were completely aware of what the sentencing language meant.
Every word of their assertions, intended to manipulate the public and the Pardon and Parole Board are outright lies. The killer’s lies are a desperate attempt to avoid accountability for his cowardly and brutal murder of Paul Howell in front of his two young daughters.”

Oklahoma Department of Corrections Manager of Sentence Administration, Offender Records, and Registeries Signs Affidavit Providing Clarification of Jordan’s Release
Further disproving Jones’ false claim that Jordan had a secret plea deal with the State, the departmental authority responsible for time calculations, sentence interpretations and offender release dates signed an affidavit confirming the details of Jordan release. Jordan’s release was not at the hands of the State, or even the Pardon & Parole Board, rather Jordan was released due to an updated operating procedure (OP060211), which amended how earned credits were applied to prisoners with life sentences.
Jones and his supporters are fully aware of the circumstances of Jordan’s release (Jones refers to the updateed operating procedure in his Commutation Application), yet they continue to knowingly spread misinformation

A group of Oklahoma faith leaders are hosting a series of activities to bring Jones’ supporters and the community-at-large together for prayer and reflection abou the key role faith plays in the justice for Jones. The Justice for Paul Howell Coalition sent letters to these leaders providing the facts of the case, and encouraged them to do their own research rathter than rely on the deceptive efforts of Jones’ supporters

Attorney General Hunter Comments on Pardon and Parole Board Vote on Julius Jones
OKLAHOMA CITY – Attorney General Mike Hunter today released the following statement after the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board voted 3-1 in favor of moving Julius Jones’ commutation request to stage two.
“With the exception of Judge Allen McCall, I am disappointed in the members of the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board,” Attorney General Hunter said. “The three members who voted in favor of moving Jones to stage two did not apply objective standards to the law or the evidence. I encourage those members to go back and look at the 33-page protest letter and 849-page appendix we submitted last Monday, which completely invalidates every claim that Julius Jones is innocent. My office will continue to stand on the irrefutable facts of this case and with the family of Paul Howell by opposing Jones’ request for relief from the Pardon and Parole Board.”

“Your actions unmistakably give rise to the appearance of impropriety, if not outright partiality,” Prater wrote. “By publicly endorsing a call for Offender Jones to be recommended for commutation by the Board upon which you sit, it is evident that neither the murder victim’s family nor the State of Oklahoma can receive fair consideration by you in this commutation proceeding.”
